Smoke Detectors

need smoke detectors. In buildings other than private homes (Class 1 buildings) and single occupancy units, the Building Regulations require the detectors to be inspected and tested at regular intervals by competent technicians. There are many types of smoke and heat alarms ranging from individual battery powered units typically installed in homes, through to fully interlinked emergency warning systems found in most larger buildings.

Building Regulations

Australian Standard 1851 requires the smoke and/or heat alarms to be inspected and tested at six-month and annual intervals, with additional testing required is the alarms are connected into a fire control panel and operate as an emergency warning system (see Fire Panels).

The six-month service is primarily an inspection process, the annual inspection is a far more rigorous process requiring specialist equipment to test and clean each alarm, the interconnections, and replace batteries and components as needed.

Records of these inspections and tests form part of the annual AESMR report that every owner of a building in a designated class is required to complete.

ESS Services

ESS has a team of technicians trained testing alarms and fire panels who carry all the necessary spares and replacement parts in their van needed to bring your systems up to 100% compliance in one visit.

As the work is done, each step is record by the technician in our maintenance management system, and the information is immediately available to clients through our dedicated client portal. The information is also stored to facilitate AESMR reporting as well as being recorded in the on-site log book.

Inspections and testing by qualified technicians give you peace of mind your buildings are compliant with the Building Regulations and more importantly, the alarms will work if there is ever the need.
